We’re ecstatic to share that we have welcomed a new apprentice to our growing team as part of our goal to invest in the future talent of public relations and social media.
At the end of May, we were excited to have 17-year-old Sophie Edwards become a member of the PR by Whitney team.
Sophie’s role will be pivotal in supporting our expanding portfolio of clients across the UK and internationally.
Sophie’s responsibilities will stretch across various aspects of the company’s services, including digital PR, content creation and social media management.
Our decision to bring on an apprentice is part of our commitment to training the next generation of PR professionals.
Sophie will be spending four days with the company while training a day per week on an NTG training provider course, which we’ll be supporting her with.
Sophie Edwards, PR and social media apprentice at PR by Whitney Williams, said: “An apprenticeship in PR and social media has always been in the back of my mind.
“It was when I started sixth form that I realised I wasn’t enjoying it.
“I’ve always been creative and enjoyed brainstorming ideas and this apprenticeship has given me more clarity on what I like to enjoy doing.
“I’ve been made to feel welcome and the team has been so helpful. I’m very excited to learn and keep growing.”
Our founder, Whitney Williams, says this is an important step in training the next generation of aspiring PR executives.
Securing a PR apprenticeship in the UK as a 17-year-old is challenging due to limited availability and age-related entry requirements, as well as the industry’s competitive nature.
However, we wanted to allow an aspiring PR professional to grow and nourish themselves by giving them an early gateway into the industry.
Whitney Williams, founder of PR by Whitney Williams, said: “Bringing Sophie on board is more than just growing our team; it’s about investing in the future of our industry.
“There’s incredible value in creating opportunities for young people to step into PR and understand it in a ‘real-world’ setting.
“Since joining the team, Sophie has already shown a huge amount of creativity and enthusiasm and we’re proud to support her as she begins her journey.
“Apprenticeships like this aren’t just important for developing skills, they help to shape the next wave of talent who will drive our industry forward.”
Apprenticeships like Sophie’s play a crucial role in addressing the shortage of young talent entering the public relations industry.
By offering real-world experience alongside formal training, companies help apprentices develop essential skills in digital PR, content creation, and social media management.
We believe this hands-on approach will benefit both Sophie and us as a business, where we can incorporate fresh ideas and new perspectives.
We strongly encourage more businesses to invest in PR apprenticeships to strengthen the industry and create more opportunities for young people who are eager to start their careers!
